Nurses should demonstrate the skills, values and knowledge to provide skilful, intelligent and compassionate care wherever they work. These issues are reflected in the four domains of the NMC competency framework that sets out the standards for competence, and the individual competencies, to be successfully achieved for registration as a nurse.

It is important to explore how statistical figures were arrived at and examine the reliability and validity of the data in question. The following questions could be asked: What was the sample size? How representative is the sample of the population? Are there any methodological weaknesses in how data was collected?
